In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
My Father's House · Room 2 of 12
That they might know thee the only true God
“This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” — John 17:3
The Father
Jesus said, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9), and prayed, “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). He taught us to pray to our Father, and that all power was given unto Him of the Father.
As Jesus spoke of the Father
- “Our Father which art in heaven” — Matthew 6:9; ask the Father in His name (John 16:23–24).
- “All power is given unto me” — Matthew 28:18; the Father gave the Son life and authority (John 5:26–27).
- “One mediator… the man Christ Jesus” — 1 Timothy 2:5.
- “This is life eternal” — to know the Father and Jesus Christ whom He has sent (John 17:3).
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
